Nuqta is a public beta. The curriculum has been taught to students for over a decade, but the app around it is young, and we would rather be honest about that than pretend it is finished. If you meet a rough edge, tell us and we will fix it.
To get started with Nuqta, open the app and tap Sign Up. Enter your email address and we'll send you a verification code. Pop the code in and you're all set.
You can also sign up with your Apple account for a quicker setup.
If you already have an account, tap Log In and verify with your email. Your progress syncs automatically once you're signed in.
When you first open Nuqta, we'll walk you through a short setup to personalise your experience. You'll be asked for your name, your current Arabic level, and what you'd like to focus on, whether that's understanding the Qur'an, building Islamic knowledge, connecting with family, or something else entirely.
You'll also choose a study pace:
Each pace sets daily targets for lessons, reading time, and vocabulary review. You can change any of these later in Settings.
We also ask for your gender during setup. This isn't for profiling. Arabic grammar changes based on gender (verb conjugations, pronouns, forms of address), so this helps us tailor exercises and examples to be grammatically accurate for you.
Nuqta is organised into five main tabs at the bottom of the screen.
Home is your daily dashboard. It shows your streak, level, progress toward daily goals, and the Quranic Word of the Day. You'll also find cards to continue your last lesson, reading, or Qur'an session.
Study is where structured Arabic lessons live. You'll work through units on a visual path, completing exercises that build your grammar and vocabulary step by step.
Qur'an gives you access to all 114 surahs with Arabic text, English translations, audio recitation, and bookmarking.
Read is your Arabic reading library. Browse curated passages and books with built in translations, word lookups, and adjustable immersion levels that control how much Arabic you see.
Review is your vocabulary practice area. Flashcards use a spaced repetition system to help you retain the words you've learned across lessons and reading.
Most of Nuqta's content works offline once it's been loaded. Lessons, reading passages, your vocabulary deck, and Qur'an text are all stored on your device after the first time you access them.
Your progress, streaks, and review sessions are saved locally. When you reconnect to the internet, Nuqta syncs everything to your account automatically.
Some content (like downloading a new book or loading audio for the first time) will need an internet connection. After that first load, it's available offline.
Lessons are the core of Nuqta's structured learning. Each lesson is a sequence of exercises that teach Arabic grammar and vocabulary in context.
You'll work through one lesson at a time, completing exercises in order. Each exercise gives you instant feedback, so you know right away whether your answer was correct, along with an explanation of the grammar point.
Lessons live inside units. Right now Unit 1 covers foundational Arabic (pronouns, verbs, nouns, case endings, common particles), with more units on the way. Unit 1 is free, and the later units are part of Premium. You can see your full progress on the Study tab, where lessons appear along a visual path.
A typical lesson takes around 10 to 20 minutes depending on the number of exercises and your pace.
Nuqta uses a variety of exercise types to build different skills. Here's a quick overview of what you'll encounter.
Multiple Choice presents four options and you select the correct answer. Word Bank gives you a set of words to arrange into the right order. Fill in the Blank asks you to type or select a missing word in a sentence. Match Pairs has you connect Arabic words to their English meanings by drawing lines.
Classify asks you to sort items into categories (like masculine and feminine nouns). Spot the Error shows a sentence with a grammatical mistake for you to identify and correct. Transform asks you to change a word's form, for example conjugating a verb or making a noun plural.
Type Answer is a free text input where you type the answer yourself. Conjugation Table presents a verb conjugation grid for you to complete. Listen and Choose plays an audio clip and asks you to pick the correct word or image. Tap in Context asks you to tap the right word within a sentence. Root Identify has you pick out the root letters of a word. Parse Sentence asks you to label the parts of speech in a sentence.
You'll also see non scored exercises: Vocab Intro cards that introduce new words, Grammar Tips that explain rules with examples, and Pronoun Tables for reference.
Your lesson progress saves automatically after every exercise. If you close the app mid lesson, you'll pick up right where you left off.
On the Home tab, you'll see a Continue card showing your current lesson and how far through the unit you are. The Study tab shows the full unit map with each lesson's status: locked, available, in progress, or completed.
When you finish a lesson, you'll see a summary of your accuracy, the new words you encountered, and the option to mark words as known or add them to your review deck.
The Read tab is split into two sections.
For You is your personalised reading feed. It shows your in progress passage (if you have one), passages suggested for your level, and any guided reading plans you've started. Think of it as your daily reading homepage.
Library is the full collection. It has two sub sections: Passages (shorter readings, around 2 to 10 minutes each) and Books (longer, chapter based texts). You can filter by category (Qur'an, Tafsir, Hadith, Seerah, Tazkiyah, Stories, and Graded Readers), browse by difficulty, or view just your favourites.
To favourite a passage, tap the heart icon on any card. You can then filter the Library to show only favourites using the heart icon in the filter bar.
Immersion levels control how much Arabic appears in your reading. This is one of Nuqta's most distinctive features, designed to gradually build your comfort with Arabic text.
There are four levels, each named after a body of water to reflect the depth of Arabic exposure:
Level 1, Qatrah (Droplet) shows only key nouns in Arabic within the English text. Everything else stays in English. This is a gentle starting point if you're just beginning.
Level 2, Nahr (River) adds verbs, adjectives, participles, and adverbs in Arabic. You'll start recognising more of the sentence structure.
Level 3, Bahr (Sea) brings in prepositions, pronouns, conjunctions, and particles. Most of the grammatical scaffolding is now in Arabic.
Level 4, Muhit (Ocean) is the full Arabic text. At this level, you're reading traditionally in Arabic with English support available through word taps.
Qatrah and Muhit are available from the start. Nahr unlocks once you reach 500 drops, and Bahr unlocks at 1200 drops, earned as you learn. You can change your immersion level at any time by tapping the Aa icon while reading, and move up as your confidence grows.
Tap any Arabic word in a passage or book to see a quick translation popup. The popup shows the English meaning and transliteration.
Tap the popup again (or tap the word a second time) to open the full Word Detail sheet. This gives you a deeper breakdown:
From the Word Detail sheet you can tap Add to Review to send the word to your vocabulary deck, or I already know this to mark it as familiar (which means it will appear in Arabic sooner at lower immersion levels).
While reading any passage or book, tap the Aa icon in the top right corner to open the settings panel.
Reading Theme lets you switch between White, Light, Sepia, and Dark backgrounds. Sepia is popular for longer reading sessions as it reduces eye strain.
Font lets you choose between Serif and Sans for English text.
Arabic Font gives you three options: Noto Naskh Arabic (clean and modern, the default), Amiri (a classical style), and Scheherazade (another traditional option). Each font has slightly different line spacing to accommodate diacritics properly.
Text Size is adjustable across six steps using the slider.
Line Spacing can be tightened or loosened depending on your preference and the Arabic font you've selected.
You'll also find toggles for Highlight Vocab (highlights words in your review deck), and colour coded highlighting for pronouns, verbs, and prepositions if you want a visual grammar aid while reading.
All your reading preferences are saved and apply across all passages and books.
Passages are short, self contained Arabic readings. They typically take 2 to 10 minutes and cover a range of topics: Qur'an, tafsir, hadith, seerah, tazkiyah, stories, and graded readers for beginners. After finishing a passage, you'll take a short comprehension quiz and have the chance to add new vocabulary to your review deck.
Books are longer, chapter based works. They use a dedicated reader with page navigation, a table of contents, and chapter bookmarks. Books also support audio narration for listening along as you read.
Both passages and books share the same features: immersion levels, word lookup, vocabulary highlighting, reading themes, and font customisation. The main difference is length and structure. Passages are great for daily practice. Books are for deeper, extended reading.
Some books are available to download for offline reading. You'll see a download icon on books that haven't been saved to your device yet.
The Qur'an tab lists all 114 surahs. Each entry shows the surah name in Arabic and English, the number of ayaat, and whether it was revealed in Makkah or Madinah.
Tap any surah to start reading. The text displays with full diacritics in a traditional mushaf style layout. You can also use the search bar at the top to find a surah by name (in Arabic, English, or transliteration) or by number.
Your last read position is saved automatically. When you return to the Qur'an tab, you'll see a Continue Reading card that takes you straight back to where you left off. The same card appears on your Home dashboard.
While reading a surah, tap the settings icon to access display options.
Under Translation, you can choose from multiple English translation editions. Select the one you prefer and it will display alongside the Arabic text.
Under Reciter, you can pick from different Qur'an reciters for audio playback. Your selection is saved and applies each time you listen.
To listen to a surah, tap the audio icon in the reader header. Playback starts from your current position and continues verse by verse.
You can adjust the playback speed from 0.5x up to 2x (0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x) to slow down for closer study or speed up for revision. Tap pause at any time and playback will resume from where you stopped.
You can also change the reciter in the settings panel if you'd like to hear a different style of recitation.
To bookmark an ayah, tap the bookmark icon while reading. A small visual indicator confirms it's been saved.
To view all your bookmarks, tap the bookmarks icon at the top of the Qur'an tab. Your saved ayaat appear in a list with the surah name and ayah number. Tap any bookmark to jump straight to that verse in the reader.
To remove a bookmark, swipe left on it in the bookmarks list.
Your vocabulary deck is built from the words you encounter across Nuqta. When you come across a new word in a lesson or while reading, you can add it to your deck by tapping Add to Review in the word detail sheet.
Once a word is in your deck, Nuqta's spaced repetition system takes over. It schedules each word to reappear at the optimal time, just before you're likely to forget it. Words you struggle with come back sooner. Words you know well are spaced further apart.
You can start a review session from the Review tab or from the Home dashboard whenever you have cards due.
During a review session, you'll see an Arabic word on the front of the card. Try to recall the meaning, then tap to flip it and see the answer.
After seeing the answer, rate how well you remembered:
Be honest with your ratings. The system adapts to your actual recall, so accurate ratings lead to a more efficient study schedule. If you always tap Easy, the system will space words too far apart and you'll start forgetting them.
Your daily vocabulary target is set as part of your study pace in Settings. The three pace options set different defaults:
You can adjust this individually if you'd like a different number. Your progress toward the daily target is shown on the Home dashboard under your goals.
Consistency matters more than volume. Reviewing a small number of cards every day is far more effective than doing a large batch once a week.
A word is considered mastered when you've reviewed it correctly and consistently enough that your long term recall is strong. Mastered words still appear in your deck occasionally, but at much longer intervals.
You can see your mastery percentage on the Review tab. It shows how many of your vocabulary cards have reached the mastered threshold compared to your total deck size.
Mastery isn't permanent. If you stop reviewing and later struggle with a word, the system will bring it back more frequently until your recall strengthens again.
Streaks track how many days in a row you've been active in Nuqta. Any meaningful activity counts: completing a lesson, reading a passage, reviewing vocabulary cards. Miss a day and the streak resets to zero. Your current streak is shown on the Home screen with a flame icon.
Drops are points you earn by completing lessons and activities. They reflect your overall effort and accumulate over time. Your drop count is visible on the Home screen next to your level.
Levels increase as you complete lessons. Each level has its own icon and colour. You can see your current level and how close you are to the next one on both the Home screen and your Profile.
Badges are milestones you unlock as you use Nuqta. They cover a range of activities: completing your first lesson, maintaining a week long streak, reading a certain number of passages, mastering vocabulary, and more.
To view your badge collection, go to Profile and tap the Badges tab. Unlocked badges appear in full colour. Badges you haven't earned yet appear greyed out. Tap any badge to see what's required to unlock it and your current progress toward it.
New badges are unlocked automatically as you hit milestones. You'll see a notification when you earn one.
Your daily goals are split into three areas: Lessons, Reading Time, and Vocabulary Review. Each one has a target that you can track from the Home dashboard.
To adjust your goals, go to Profile > Settings and choose your study pace (Khutwa, Maseera, or Intillaaq). Each pace sets sensible defaults across all three areas. You can also fine tune individual targets if you want a custom balance.
Completing all three daily goals is a great way to maintain your streak and make steady progress. The weekly activity widget on the Home screen shows your completion history for the past seven days.
To update your profile, go to Profile and tap Edit Profile. You can change your profile photo, display name, gender, and date of birth.
Your email address is set during sign up and can't be changed from the app. If you need to update it, contact us at admin@nuqta.co.
To turn on dark mode, go to Profile > Settings and toggle Dark Mode. This applies across the entire app.
Turning on Dark Mode also switches your reading theme to Dark. You can then pick any reading theme, for example Sepia, from the Aa panel while reading, so you can pair a dark app theme with a different reading theme. Reading theme preferences are managed through the Aa settings panel while reading.
Nuqta can send you two types of daily notifications.
Daily Reminder prompts you to study at a time you choose. In Settings, use the Reminders row to turn it on and set your preferred time.
Quranic Word of the Day delivers a new Arabic word from the Qur'an each day. Use the Word of the Day row in Settings to turn it on and set its own time.
Both can be toggled on or off independently.
To sign out, go to Profile > Settings and tap Log Out at the bottom of the screen. Your progress remains saved and will sync when you sign back in. There is also Reset Account, which logs you out and clears the data on your device without deleting your account.
To permanently delete your account and all associated data, go to Profile > Settings and tap Delete Account. This removes everything from our servers and cannot be undone. Make sure this is what you want before confirming.

To upgrade at any time, open Settings and tap Upgrade to Premium. This shows the current plans, and the price for your region is displayed by the App Store or Google Play. If a free trial is ever offered on your account, the store shows it on the plan before you confirm, and you can see how many days are left in Settings.
Your subscription is billed through the store you bought it from, so you manage it there. In Settings, tap Manage Subscription to open your subscription settings on the App Store or Google Play, where you can change or cancel your plan. If you have paid before, for example on another device, tap Restore Purchases in Settings to bring your Premium access back. Prices are shown in the App Store and Google Play in your local currency.
If Nuqta is slow or stuck on a loading screen, try closing the app completely and reopening it. Make sure you're running the latest version from the App Store.
If the issue continues, restart your device. This resolves most performance issues related to memory or background processes.

Nuqta syncs your progress when you open the app and after completing activities like lessons, reading sessions, or vocabulary reviews. If your progress appears missing on another device, make sure both devices are connected to the internet and signed into the same account.
Try closing and reopening the app to trigger a fresh sync. If the issue persists, reach out to us at admin@nuqta.co and we'll help sort it out.
First, check that your device isn't on silent mode (the physical switch on the side of your iPhone) and that the volume is turned up.
If audio still isn't playing for a specific passage or Qur'an recitation, try switching to a different reciter or audio source in the settings panel. Some audio files may need an internet connection to load for the first time.
